KE: AAG Maputo 2011 Chess – Final Results

Chess events at the All Africa Games 2011 in Maputo, Mozambique drew to a close yesterday as the open and ladies teams fought through their last battles in their 9th and 7th rounds respectively.

The Kenyan open team went down to neighbours Ethiopia with a score of 1.5-2.5, while the ladies team lost 0.5-3.5 to Botswana.

Round 9 – Open Team

As was expected, favourites to win, Egypt, took home team gold medals in both sections, the open team winning all their rounds with a total of 18 points (out of 18) while the ladies team won 6 and drew 1 round to end the tournament with a total of 13 points (out of 14).

In the open section, South Africa (16 points) took home the silver medal, while bronze went to Angola (13 points).
