A delayed start and some organisational hiccups notwithstanding, the ChessPAK Cup open tournament got off to a promising start earlier today with the efforts of Collins Young, a representative of Checkmates Chess Club.

A total of three rounds were played with each round lasting up to 2 hours. Due to a lack of equipment, most games were played without the use of clocks, which were introduced only after a game had gone past an hour and forty minutes.
Unlike other major tournaments organised by Checkmates CC in the past, this one saw the participation of two juniors, while the number of lady contestants went down to just one. Special prizes will be awarded in both categories to encourage participation.
