KE: ChessPAK Takes First Steps Towards Becoming A Registered Society

Chess Players Association of Kenya (ChessPAK) today took its first steps towards becoming a registered society by establishing a brand identity and a web presence on major social networks via a Facebook page and a Twitter account.

Designed by the professional alter ego of yours truly, The Paras Gudka, the logo is meant to “depict inclusion of all members of society with a focus on the ‘association’ aspect of this self-governing body”.

The body describes itself as:

A self-governed body of chess players working for the development of chess in Kenya.

We are an unregistered association of chess players doing our bit to spread the game across Kenyan households, schools, cities and counties.Currently spearheaded by Collins Young, George Nderitu and William Wachania, we will be filing for registration under the Societies Act very soon.

We aim to organise regular tournaments in all formats (blitz, rapid and classical), maintain a reliable ratings list and much more.

It now remains to be seen if this self-governed body of chess players is able to address the developmental challenges of giving access to infrastructure and making chess appealing to the general public of a country rocked by too many sporting scandals in the past decade.

We wish them all the best in their endeavours!
