After many phone calls and frantic texts to defending champion Martin Gateri, he finally arrived at the tournament venue to the relief of his stronger opponents, Mehul Gohil, Ben Magana and George Mwangi.

With a higher prize fund at stake, a stronger playing field and a newly introduced time control, the tension was palpable on the participants’ faces.

In the end, everyone had a good time, with tournament arbiters Mike Rua (standing far right) and Collins Young (standing far left) and tournament director Kim Bhari (standing in the middle) doing an excellent job at keeping the event running smoothly.
