The Juniors section of the recently concluded Mombasa Open Chess Tournament at Nyali Primary School saw 26 participants attend the event – 10 from Nairobi and the remaining 16 from Mombasa. Organised by Dr. Philip Mwashe of Mombasa Chess Club and with arbitration by a Chess Kenya representative, the tournament was well-organised according to a parent of one of the participants.
Seven rounds were played over two days with a time control of 30 minutes per player to finish a game. Medals were awarded to the top three finishers in ‘male’ and ‘female’ categories for different age groups, while the overall winners got beautiful trophies.
