Uganda’s male representative in the Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship, Elija Emojong was again involved in a third successive draw in the sixth round played on Wednesday 25th May 2011 against Sudan’s Asim Ale Eladid.
Emojong who had the black pieces employed the Queens Gambit declined but could not unlock the resilient Sudanese and both players had no option but to share the spoils.
The sixth round draw followed back-to-back draws in the previous two rounds against IMs from Nigeria and Egypt. The result puts the Ugandan on 3.5 points out of a possible 6 with 3 games left.
Ladies representative Goretti Angolikin played two games yesterday losing one to Egypt’s Merham Mahmood in the fifth round and winning against Sudan’s Alizabeth in the sixth round. The loss was Angolikin’s second in the event against the same experienced Egyptian who completed a double over her. The ladies are involved in a double round robin. In the sixth round Angolikin also beat her Sudanese opponent for the second time to get to get to 3.5 points out of 6.
