The North Rift Branch of Chess Kenya will be hosting the North Rift Branch
International Open Chess Tournament in Eldoret county over the upcoming weekend of March 16th to 18th 2012. This will be a FIDE rated tournament with players from all over the world.
The objective of this tournament is
“to organize FIDE rated tournaments and to increase the
number of FIDE rated players in Kenya and its environs”
as indicated in the invitation sent out to chess players across the country. Details of the tournament follow.

Time: Friday, 8.30 am
Venue: Sirikwa Hotel, Eldoret
Categories: Open and Ladies
Mode of Play: 6 rounds Swiss system
Time Control: 120 minutes per player for first 40 moves and 30 minutes thereafter to finish the game
Participation Fee:
- Chess Kenya members – KES 1,000
- Non Chess Kenya members – KES 1,900

Rules/Notes:
- The tournament will be run on Swiss system of pairing: 6 rounds: 2 rounds per day.
- Play will start at 8.30 am on Friday 16th March, 90 minutes per player to
finish. Walk-over time, 0 minutes. - Bucholz will be used to apply.
- No consultations or analysis of unfinished games will be accepted
- If a player withdraws from the tournament before its conclusion, his score at the stage will stand. Unplayed or forfeited games will not be counted.
- Games will be governed by the laws of chess compiled by the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
- No player shall be allowed to waive any exaction of a penalty or the enforcement of the rules under which the tournament is conducted, and he or she shall at all times play to the best of his or her ability.
- The Tournament Committee is responsible for organizing and running of the event. Arbitrators will rule on all disputes, and the decision of the tournament director will be final.
- Registration can be done via M-PESA (KES 1,030 for members and KES 1,930 for non-members) to 0723 752 104. Deadline for registration will be strictly on 14th March at 5 pm. To send money, kindly use M-PESA lines registered under your names to avoid confusion. Receipts to be picked from the secretariat any weekday at the Nyayo stadium secretariat or on the tournament day at the play venue.
