UG: Emojong, Angolikin Leading in Olympiad Qualifiers

FM Elijah Emojong won his fifth and sixth round games played in the final phase of the Olympiad Qualifiers to get to 5.5 points out of 6, a full point ahead of his closest challengers at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel on Tuesday 1 May 2012. He beat Micheal Mawanda and Vianney Luggya.

Following closely is Rajab Kamoga and Harold Wanyama at 4.5 points each. Kamoga drew both games against Bob Bibasa and Kenneth Kakooza while Wanyama beat Farouk Fauza and Mawanda.

In other fifth round games played on Tuesday, Shadrack Kantinti beat Haruna Nsubuga as Kenneth Kakooza beat Daniel Baagadde.

In the sixth round, Kawuma Patrick beat Kantinti, Nsubuga beat Bibasa and Baagadde beat Farouk.

The competition is still ongoing with five more rounds to be played on 5-6 and 12 May 2012 as top players battle for the top four slots to represent the country at the World Chess Olympiad due to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in August 2012.
