18 Schools teams are battling each other in the 2012 National Schools Chess Championship (Fr. Grimes) that started on Saturday 21st April 2012 at Hope High School Watoto in Mpigi.
Leading the standings in the boys category are defending champions St. Mbuga Vocational Secondary School led by Benjamin Mukumbya. In the girls category, SOM Academy are enjoying an early lead.
The event ends on Wednesday 25th April 2012.

Boys Category
- St. Mbuga Vocational Secondary Schools – 8 points
- SOM Academy – 8 points
- Namilyango College – 7 points
- Jinja College – 6.5 points
- Mwiri- 5.5 points
- Butiki – 5 points
- Hope High School – 4 points
Girls Category
- SOM Academy – 7 points
- St. Mbuga Vocational Secondary Schools – 5 points
- Trinity College Nabbingo – 4.5 points
- Hope High School – 4 points
